GODSPEED
WILLARD LAYMANCE THOMAS
The oldest member of the BMW Club of Northern
California quietly passed away on April 24th,
2006 in his home in Oakland at the age of
86. The former military counter-intelligence
operative was known to always keep at least
three bikes in his garage, including his
first BMW, from 1959. He rode his motorcycle
into his eighties and only slowed down after
having a heart attack that he never fully
recovered from. He is survived by his wife
of 60 years, Liliana, a son, a daughter and
two granddaughters. Godspeed Willard.
GODSPEED
LEIGH ANN HUSSEY
Long time Bay Area motorcyclist and friend
to many, Leigh Ann Hussey, 43, was killed
instantaneously on May 16th, 2006, after
being run over by a truck on West I-580 near
the North Livermore exit. The BMW motorcycle
she was riding, apparently clipped the rear
end of a dump truck, throwing her underneath
the rear tires at 50 to 55 MPH. Authorities
speculate she did not suffer and her death
was immediate. Authorities have also stated
that there were no drugs or alcohol involved
in the crash. Talented singer-songwriter
and Berkeley native, Leigh Ann graduated
from UC Berkeley with a degree in music and
was very involved with the AMA and woman
motorcycling. Godspeed Leigh Ann.

Help Needed |
A local Ducati Monster Club member and BARFer
--Kurt Yaeger-- was "taken out" by a hit-and-run
driver on March 31 on his way home. He survived
but suffered a shattered pelvis and broken
legs. After suffering an infection in his
left leg. He had it amputated below the knee
in order to save the rest of the leg and
possibly his life.
Kurt is a great guy and a gifted rider. He's
determined to get his bike back together
and ride again! He's working on his Master's
and soon PhD in geology and his wife is a
nurse. Kurt has got a patent in the works
on an aftermarket upgrade for motorcycles
and hopfuly that will work out for him in
the future. In the meantime,
he's had over a dozen surgeries and expenses
(above what his insurance will cover) are
mounting.
They are raising $ on ducatimonster.org for the prosthetics Kurt is going need,
for necessary access-remodels to his house,
and for his future long-term medical needs.
Anything the local moto commmunity
can contribute
will help. I know this community has been asking a lot
of its members lately, so I can appreciate
that digging into your pockets might be a
bit tough right now.
You can donate via PAYPAL or attend the next fundraiser at Kilowatt in SF on Wednesday, June 14th (Flag Day)!

Thanks in advance, DucatiHoney from BARF
