Stunt rider Seth Enslow broke the world record for the longest distance jumped on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle March 2nd, flying through the air near Australia's Sydney Harbour to shatter the previous 10-year-old record. Enslow flew to a new record distance of 183.7 feet (56 meters) on his Harley-Davidson XR1200 shortly after a 175 foot (53.34 meters) jump. Evel Knievel set the record in 1975 and held it for 24 years before Blackwell's jump.

Lawyer Rips Off AMA
Date: Feb.26.2010

Dal Smilie apologized Monday for humiliating his family and the AMA, the nation's biggest motorcycle membership organization.

A Montana lawyer and motorcycle enthusiast has pleaded guilty in Ohio to stealing $100,000 from the American Motorcyclist Association, the nation's biggest motorcycle membership organization.

The 62-year-old Smilie is a former chief lawyer for the Montana Department of Administration and was a member of the Ohio-based motorcycle group's board of directors for 25 years.

He says he logged 2.5 million miles traveling for the AMA but overstated his expenses. He pleaded guilty to grand theft and receiving stolen property. A spokesman for the club says Smilie stole from the AMA for at least six years.

A judge sentenced Smilie to three years and eight months in prison but suspended the sentence in lieu of two years of community control and a $1,000 fine.

Smilie repaid the AMA before he was charged.

Motorcyclist Eludes Cops Through 3 Counties
Date: Feb.21.2010

Santa Cruz, CHP and Capitola police are hoping tips from the public will help them find a man who robbed a drug store then eluded capture during high-speed motorcycle chase across three counties. Police say a man believed to be in his 20s brandished a knife and robbed a Walgreens of a small amount of cash around 9:50 p.m. Friday.
California Highway Patrol officers gave chase after spotting the motorcycle a few minutes later. CHP officers lost the suspect, but Capitola police picked up the pursuit. When the suspect headed south on Highway 1, pursuing officers say he hit speeds as high as 120 miles per hour. CHP units picked up the chase again, pursuing the motorcycle from Santa Cruz County, into San Benito County and into Monterey County. The CHP lost suspect somewhere near Highway 156.
Running from the cops on a motorcycle, with cops in hot pursuit for such a long distance and eluding capture is very rare. Usually, the motorcyclist will let the speed get ahead of his skills and crash, or be corned and bumped out lightly by the police.
